How to Adjust Your Skincare Routine for Summer Heat and Humidity
Summer is a season of sunshine, beach days, and longer daylight hours. But it also comes with heat, humidity, and sweat, which can wreak havoc on your skin if you’re not prepared. Adjusting your skincare routine to match the season’s demands is essential for maintaining a healthy, radiant complexion. Here's how you can tweak your routine to keep your skin glowing, even in the hottest months.
Lighten Up Your Moisturiser
Increased humidity means your skin retains more moisture, so you might not need a heavy-duty moisturiser. Switch to a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer or a gel-based formula (check out our moisturiser here!). Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which hydrates without making your skin feel greasy.
Don’t Skip Sunscreen
Sunscreen is non-negotiable year-round, but it’s especially crucial in summer when UV exposure is at its peak. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and reapply every two hours, especially if you’re swimming or sweating.
Cleanse Twice a Day
With the rise in temperature, your skin tends to produce more oil, which can mix with sweat and dirt to clog pores. Use a gentle cleanser in the morning and evening to remove impurities without stripping your skin of its natural oils. If you’re acne-prone, a salicylic acid cleanser can help control breakouts.
Exfoliate, but Not Too Much
Exfoliation is essential for removing dead skin cells and keeping your complexion clear, but overdoing it can lead to irritation, especially in summer. Aim to exfoliate 1-2 times a week with a gentle scrub.
Use Non-Comedogenic Makeup
If you wear makeup, opt for non-comedogenic products to avoid clogging your pores. Tinted moisturisers with SPF or lightweight BB creams can give you coverage without feeling heavy on your skin.
Stay Hydrated
Skincare isn’t just about what you apply externally—it’s also about how you care for your skin from the inside. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and maintain its elasticity.
Focus on Nighttime Recovery
Your skin repairs itself while you sleep, so make sure your nighttime routine is up to par. Use a lightweight, non-greasy serum with retinol or peptides to support cell turnover and repair.
Don’t Forget Your Body
Skincare isn’t just for your face. Switch to a refreshing body wash, exfoliate with a gentle scrub, and apply a lightweight body lotion (check out our favourite body lotion for suitable for all skin types here 😉) to keep your skin soft and smooth all over.
By adapting your skincare routine to the summer heat and humidity, you can avoid common issues like breakouts, dryness, and sun damage. Listen to your skin’s needs, stay consistent, and enjoy the season with confidence and glowing skin!
